First founded in 1908, the club is marking its 95th anniversary since its refromation this year. York were early members of Division Three North and Division Four. The club's most notable achievements have been on FA Cup runs, including reaching the semi-finals against Newcastle in 1955. The league high point came in 1974 when they reached Division Two (the current Championship level) and finished a heady 15th before relegation the following season. Citys earned promotion success in the playoffs in 1992/93 when on a first ever visit to Wembley they beat Crewe in a penalty shoot out. In 2004 the club finished bottom of League Two and lost league status for the first time in 75 years. But York won promotion in the play-off final in 2012 and enjoyed another four years in League Two before relegation. There were two FA Trophy wins though in 2012 and 2017. Last season's midtable finish under Martin Gray after relegation was disappointing and there was a repeat. It's expected that the new 8.000-seater stadium will be ready during the 2019/20 season.
Admission prices (2019/20) Darlo fans will be given the North Stand in the new stadium, with a capacity of 878 seats. Adult: £16; concession: £13 and U18 £6 (up tp 24 hours in advance) and £18, £15 concession and £8 under 18 on the day.

From the North (M1): (From Darlington ). Leave the A1 and take A19 to York, onto Shipton Road. Turn left by the Burton Stone pub into Burton Stone Lane and the ground is on the right. Parking at the new stadium includes 400 spaces available at the park and ride (P&R) next door. tadium. This includes room for coaches. In the town centre, there is the all-day Union Terrace car park off Clarence Street and the Bootham Row car park. The council produce quite a useful parking map although one option is to park elsewhere and train in or park at the park-and-ride (sign-posted on approaches) to the north of the city and take the bus. Red and Blue Net tell us if going by car then arrive very early and be aware that residents-only schemes are in operation.

The new stadium is on a leisure complex on the outskirts of the city centre, north east of the station, off Malton Road (A1036).
Bootham Crescent, in the unlikely event the club is still there in December, is a fairly easy walk from the station. Turn left into station Road and
a quick left into Leeman Road. Then before you reach the railway bridge,
take a right along a footpath, walk over the River Ouse bridge, past the
Marygate car park and through an underpass under the railway. Follow the
path over the road into Grosvenor Terrace. Bootham Crescent runs parallel
