History: First founded in 1908, the club is marking its 95th anniversary since its refromation this year. York were early members of Division Three North and Division Four. The club's most notable achievements have been on FA Cup runs, including reaching the semi-finals against Newcastle in 1955. The league high point came in 1974 when they reached Division Two (the current Championship level) and finished a heady 15th before relegation the following season. City’s earned promotion success in the playoffs in 1992/93 when on a first ever visit to Wembley they beat Crewe in a penalty shoot out. In 2004 the club finished bottom of League Two and lost league status for the first time in 75 years. But York won promotion in the play-off final in 2012 and enjoyed another four years in League Two before relegation. There were two FA Trophy wins though in 2012 and 2017. Last season's midtable finish under Martin Gray after relegation was disappointing and there was a repeat. It's expected that the new 8.000-seater stadium will be ready during the 2019/20 season.

Bootham Crescent, in the unlikely event the club is still there in December, is a fairly easy walk from the station. Turn left into station Road and a quick left into Leeman Road. Then before you reach the railway bridge, take a right along a footpath, walk over the River Ouse bridge, past the Marygate car park and through an underpass under the railway. Follow the path over the road into Grosvenor Terrace. Bootham Crescent runs parallel

The official site is pretty good with a full section for away fans.

City centre:

York Tap, York Railway Station, Station Road YO24 1AB
This has been a real ale go-to place, although might be a bit awkward on a matchday. On the station platform, there is an excellent beer range.

The Maltings, Tanners Moat, Lendel Bridge
One of the better known watering holes for most Darlo fans. Very handy for the station so well placed for drowning sorrows after the game as well. Not the biggest pub in the world but has a fine range of about seven real ales as well as an interesting choice of German wheat beers and Belgian brews. The food is good too - who can resist the mountain that is curry chips? Winner of many CAMRA awards over the past 10 years. Just a pity it's a midweek trip
, a sorry loss. DAFTS Pub of the Year 2001/2002 and highly recommended Click for map .

The Ackhorne, St Martin's Lane, off Micklegate Click on map
A wonderful pub up a cobbled lane - well worth finding. Great ales on tap - many local brews - and some top nosh to boot. Very friendly staff. Slightly off the beaten track so is not besieged by tourists and young kids. DAFTS recommended.

The Hop, 11-12 Fossgate
Ossett Brewery pub with food and real ale.

Closer to the ground, The Burton Stone in Clifton Road is OK for away fans. Popular with Darlo fans and those travelling by car.

Try looking also at the CAMRA York pub map and online pub guide for more information and suggestions.

There club promises a food kiosk in the away end selling hot and cold drinks and hot and cold snacks, including burgers, pies and hot dogs.
